I figured rather than try to answer everything on text until we go home I will try and keep my blog updated on Parker's status.
Since he was born 5 weeks early we were aware that he could be transferred to NICU right away due to his size or other complications. He arrived, was crying right away and passsed all tests. After everything was checked out they wanted to try and get him fed right away.
He wasn't interested in eating but took a little from a bottle right away. We were told that he couldn't go through two feedings in a row using a tube to feed him or he would be transferred to NICU. He didn't pass the 10:30 or 1:30 feeding. The nurses told us that typically babies don't develop the suck/breathe/swallow reflex until 38 weeks and it is typical that he doesn't know how.
So the first night he got transferred down to NICU; he also was having trouble maintaining body temperature the first night so they started him on antibiotics. Which he will have to take for 48 hours.
Yesterday he made a lot of progress on learning to eat. At every feeding he at least took some from a bottle and by the end of the day he was sucking on a pacifier and breathing at the same time.
They haven't gave us a timeline of how long he will be here but we do know that he will have to learn to eat before he goes home and the antibiotics will make it at least Monday.
Last night I got to cuddle with him for a couple of hours before I went to bed. He's so tiny but absolutely precious.
Hoping for another good day! :)
